IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It is essentially sophisticated real time chat program similar to many of the popular instant messengers. Ever since the first days of the Dark Brotherhood Internet Relay Chat has been used to communicate and is only surpassed in its usefulness by direct e-mail communication. IRC allows you to do most of the things you are probably familar with in instant messengers such as message people individually, set up chat rooms, send and recieve files etc. The benefits of IRC is that it is much more user friendly and easy to use and is far more suited for dealing with large groups of people- such as the Dark Brotherhood. The main benefit of IRC is that it allows people to get to know each other. The most active members of the Dark Brotherhood are always the ones that get on IRC early and start making friendships. Its true what people say: who you know is everything in life. That's just as true here and the sooner you get to know other people, the sooner you'll be having fun and participating in the great variety of activities the Dark Brotherhood offers. The most popular IRC program is called mIRC 32. Its free. Its good. It does everything you need. To get it you should head to the mIRC website http://www.mirc.com and download it from there then follow the simple install instructions. If you have any problems with getting mIRC running then a guide is available on the main Dark Brotherhood website: Chat/IRC Guide using mIRC. There is also a DB IRC java applet available however this is a lot harder to use and lacks many of the features available in mIRC so it is strongly recommended you get mIRc 32 itself. When you finally get mIRC 32 up and running you might find it a little confusing at first, in which case just refer to the guide mentioned above which contains easy to follow screenshots of every step.
